2010 Reading Challenge - week 25

Only 2 books for me again this week. I've been busy getting ready for the youth camp that I will be a leader at next week. Which reminds me, I probably won't be posting about this next week.

However, this does mean I've read 100 books for this challenge and only have 60 to go!! Which puts me at 62.5%.

So those two books were:

  • Never Say Never by Lisa Wingate
  • A Case for Love by Kaye Dacus

Both of these were the 3rd book in their series.

I'm currently reading:

  • More Precious Than Silver by Joni Eareckson Tada (a year-long devotional)
  • Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye by Carolyn McCulley (2 chapters to go)
  • Found Treasure by Grace Livingston Hill

Teaser Tuesdays - June 22

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Ok, so I know I missed last week. I was just a bit busy.

This week's teaser is from a book I'm about to start, so here's the first couple of paragraphs. I'm hooked already and can't wait to see how things turn out. It should be good - at least the other 2 in the series were.

'A Case For Love' by Kaye Dacus

"You did what?"

Forbes Guidry sank into the tall-backed leather chair, extremities numb, and stared at the couple sitting across the desk from him. As a partner in the largest law firm in Bonneterre, Louisiana, he'd heard a lot of shocking things over the fourteen years he'd been practicing. But nothing had hit him quite like this.

"We eloped." His sister held up her left hand where a diamond wedding band had been added below the antique engagement ring she'd sported for the past three months. "I know you were looking forward to being Major's best man, which is why we're telling you before breaking it to the rest of the family."

Christian Historical Fiction Reading Challenge - May update

As you may know, I finished this challenge in March, but decided to see just how many books of this genre I read this year.

During May I read 6 books. They were:

  • The Patriots by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #3)
  • The Adversaries by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #4)
  • The Pioneers by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #5)
  • The Allies by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #6)
  • The Victors by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #7)
  • The Hidden Flame by Davis Bunn & Janette Oke (Acts of Faith series #2)

This now takes me to 40 books for the year.

2010 Reading Challenge - week 22

3 books finished this week

They were:

  • The Truth Seeker by Dee Henderson (O'Malley series #3)
  • The Protector by Dee Henderson (O'Malley series #4)
  • The Healer by Dee Henderson (O'Malley series #5)

It's not that these books are hard to read, I love them. It's just that I haven't spent as much time reading this week because I've had other projects that I've been working on.

I'm still reading:

  • More Precious Than Silver by Joni Eareckson Tada (just reminding you that this is a year-long devotional)
  • Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? by Carolyn McCulley
  • The Rescuer by Dee Henderson (O'Malley series #6 - the final book)

Friday Fill-Ins #179

And...here we go!

1. A place in the country is my favorite place to travel to.
2. When I think about my childhood, I often remember the adventures we used to have in the reserve across the road from our house. Poor Mum, we always came home with grass stains on our pants - and they smelled because it was onion grass.
3. Jenny makes for a good friend, actually she's my best friend.
4. The wind in the trees, the rain on my skin, feeling God's presence as I stand on top of the mountain. (This really did happen for me several years ago as I stood on top of Flinders Peak in the You Yangs.)
5. Life is so exciting! ... sometimes.
6. My best friend knows that I don't really want her to leave, but that I also understand why she must.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a quiet night at home, tomorrow my plans include a trip to Queen Victoria Market with Jenny (yay! we finally get to buy Ugg boots) and Sunday, I want to enjoy a GNG breaky, fellowship at church and a quiet afternoon!

'The Healer' by Dee Henderson (O'Malley series #5)

'The doorbell rang. Carol wasn't expecting anyone. "Just a minute." She went to get it.

Carol opened the door only to stop, surprised. "Was the basketball game canceled?" She stepped back to let her visitor in. She hoped Amy would be smart enough to stay in the kitchen when she heard his voice so they could avoid a confrontation.

"Not exactly". The gunshot hit her inthe chest. She went crashing back into the living room table.'

Bridge of Memories

Are there places that were significant to you during childhood that are still special for you now?
The Westgate Bridge is one of those for me.
As a child I went over that bridge hundreds of times.
I remember when it was still tolled!
It was kind of a way to an enchanted place back then - we went over it everytime we visited my grandparents (Dad's parents)!
I still love it now. These days I live on the other side of it, but I still travel over it to visit family.
