Friday Fill-In #127

And...here we go!

1. This weekend we are finally moving into our new home-sweet-home.

2. My favorite thing for dinner lately has been meat with 3 or more vegies, same as it's always been.

3. Misty the dog said "bark! bark! bark!"

4. A nice long walk along the beach or through a national forest is what I'd like to be doing right now.

5. Please tell me some good news.

6. When all is said and done, once a job is completed I forget about it.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to packing boxes and taking things to our new house, tomorrow my plans include moving, moving and more moving and Sunday, I want to take it easy after moving on Saturday, maybe start arranging things in the new house!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, once again I have moving on my mind, but that will all be over by this time next week. The big day is finally here (well, one more sleep).
Most things are ready in the new house. There's still some blinds to be put up, especially the one in the main bathroom, since there are currently no window coverings in that room and it faces the street on the side. This may be one of my jobs for tonight.
I still have a heap of things to pack ready for moving. Because I've been working full time and had a variety of commitments in the evenings, I haven't been able to do as much packing as I really needed to. I get the feeling that most of my things will end up being placed in my car and ferried over without actually being packed in boxes. This could cause chaos in my room, but that's just the way it is.
I still need to buy a couple of new bookshelves. This may need to wait a little while, until I have a Saturday free to go to Ikea. So unpacking most of my books will need to wait. How much room my books take up will also determine what other things are put on the bookshelves.
I will have extra things in my room that have been stored in the garage for the past 5 years, so there will be a lot of sorting and repacking of items that I don't want now, but will not for any reason throw or give away, such as my dolls and other toys, as well as Glory Box items.
So my life is currently crazy busy, but may slow down a bit for the rest of the month ... maybe!
Spring/Autumn Cleaning Challenge
Well, this challenge is over.
Unfortunately I was not successful. Sometimes moving isn't the best time to sort through things, even though it would reduce the amount of stuff you have to move.
I had planned to sort through things under my bed an desk. This will happen eventually, as I go through the boxes of things that have been packed ready for moving on Saturday. Right now I just have to have things ready to be moved, and since I'm working full time, I just don't have the time to go through things.
I now plan to go through each box as I open it, and sort through things then - either to keep, throw away or donate.
There have been a couple of things as I've been packing that I've put in a bag to go to the Op Shop. It's a pretty full bag, especially after putting a sombrero in it.
Hopefully Monica and the others doing the challenge were more successful than I.
Oh, this is so sad. I hope Rosie doesn't feel like this when we move. We're going to have to keep her shut in one room for most of moving day, just to keep her safe and out of the way. But when she comes out when we're going to take her to the new house ...
Is there anyone out there who has tips for moving house with a cat?
We're only going across town, but even so it will be a big change. We've all looked at the new house, but Rosie has no idea what's going on. All she is seeing are boxes all around the house being packed and stacked ready for moving.
Attics
With the upcoming move to our new house, and making room plans for where furniture would go, I have been thinking about the layout of various houses and the differences between houses in Australia and other countries.
The average Australian house (at least to my knowledge) is a single level dwelling. In movies and books I frequently hear about American and English homes that have either (or both) and attic or basement. My focus here is attics.
In books attics are generally used for the storage of heirlooms that are not on display and other random objects that are too good to throw away because they have special memories attached or just because they might be useful some day.
The way it seems at the moment, our new house won't fit everything comfortably, or without rooms looking squished. Although we will have 4 bedrooms instead of 3, the other living areas are smaller and I guess you could say there are less of them.
Dad doesn't want a whole heap of things in the garage like we have had in our rented house, but some family members seem reluctant to part with various things, some for sentimental reasons. Inherited items that we just don't have room for, but are still good, are the main issue.
I still don't have all the rooms measured and drawn, nor do I have all the furniture done (although I think the main items are complete), so this may not be as much of an issue as it seems at present.
Ok, so you're still wondering why I'm thinking about attics. Well, if we had an attic in our house we could fit these items in there until such time as we found a use for them (such as the extra lounge suite which my sister may need when she moves out of home).
I know it would increase the cost of the house, but I really think they are a great idea. Instead of paying for an off-site storage facility, as some people do, you have the convenience of it right there, the things are covered by your contents insurance, and you can access them whenever you need to.
Moving!
Very soon, within 2 months, I'll be moving!
Not my blog, that's staying right where it is.
Moving house!!
My parents have bought a house in the area where we have been renting for 5 years. It's a little further out as far as distance from the CBD of Melbourne, but that's fine with me. I can still catch the train easily when I want to, but we feel a bit more like we are in the country. That's a good thing because I'm a country girl at heart.
The best thing is that I will finally have my own room instead of having to share with my youngest sister. The other great things are that I can hang pictures on the walls with permanent hooks and I can rearrange and redecorate to my heart's content (within reason, of course).
This is just the motivation for starting that correspondence Interior Design Course that I've been dreaming about since I was 16. It's also motivation for getting on with the patchwork doona cover that I've been planing for 10 years. The carpet in the new house is a lovely blue colour, and the quilt will match it beautifully.
We're planning on measuring all the rooms and noting where windows, powerpoints and other fixtures are so that I can make up scaled drawings of the rooms and furniture to work out the best arrangements. I will particularly be doing this for my room and the lounge room. The lounge room really needs it because the entry comes straight into it and we want to have some kind of division between entry and family area. I'm thinking that the couch will end up becoming a 'wall' since we don't want any permanent structures there. I'm also thinking an open bookshelf or something like that. Mum and Dad don't want to purchase any more furniture, so that will limit things to a certain extent.
The house is almost new, being only 2 1/2 years old. That's meant there aren't any curtains in most of the bedrooms and no window coverings in the bathrooms. I'm excited that I get to pick what I want. I'm assuming that Mum and Dad will have a budget and if I want something that costs more I'll have to chip in, but that doesn't bother me. I'd rather get something that I love than settling for something I can just live with.
When I've got things organised I'll post some photos up, but in the meantime stay tuned for updates.
I'm thinking a trip to Ikea is in order very, very soon!
