Teaser Tuesdays - May 25

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

'The Negotiator' by Dee Henderson

'In the past hour and a half, Kate had completely shut off her emotions. She was too numb to feel anything anymore. The faces around her were grim. Helicopters waited on the taxiway to take survivors to the hospitals, but there were no survivors.

It had become a massive crime scene.'

My City

I LOVE Melboure! Seriously!
It's not because I live in what is currently the furthest out suburb on the south-western side.
I love going into the CBD and exploring the streets and laneways - visiting favourite shops and finding new ones.

Today was one of those days for me.
Seeing the 'Polly Woodside' from Jeff's shed (aka The Melbourne Exhibition Centre); strolling along Southbank; taking a ride on a very full City Circle Tram; a quick trip into Melbourne Central (including my two favourite shops - The Original Lolly Store on Menzies Place and Kikki.K).

I just love the city!

It's MY city!

(By the way, this is my 500th post!)

Teaser Tuesdays - May 18

Ok, so I almost forgot it was Tuesday today, but the day is not yet over, so I still have time to post this.

'The Guardians' by Jack Cavanaugh (sort of the final book in the American Family Portrait series, except that he calls it a stand alone)

'Death had no good reason being out on a night like this. It was September warm. The Santa Ana wind had scrubbed the sky clean. The harvest moon cast a soft light. It was a perfect evening for a carefree stroll. Not a killing night at all.

From the backseat of a patrol car, through the wire mesh screen, Detective Ethan Morgan saw two things that didn't belong together - his house and a crime scene.'

In some ways I'm enjoying this final book the best. I've struggled to get through the series, but this one has a lot more action in it. One thing though, the name of Ethan Morgan's father - if he is the Vietnam soldier from 'The Peacemakers' then the name is wrong. Otherwise he has to be a cousin, and that doesn't fit with the men selected to hold the Morgan Family Bible. Just a slight delemma I have.

2010 Reading Challenge - week 19

Just 2 books this week, but I'm not worried, since this takes me to just over 50% of my target of 160 and it's only the middle of May.

The two for this week were:

  • The Adversaries by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #4)
  • The Pioneers by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #5)

I'm reading:

  • More Precious Than Silver by Joni Eareckson Tada
  • Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye by Carolyn McCulley
  • The Allies by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #6)

It's taking me a while to read this American Family Portrait series. I've been busy doing other things, and they don't grip me like many other books. There are similar to Gilbert Morris' House of Winslow series, but fewer books and not as easy to read. Don't get me wrong, they are good books, but I think my Dad finished them faster than I am, and he doesn't usually do that. I will persevere and get through the series. I think after the current one I have 3 more - World War 2, the Veitnam War and a modern day one.

Friday Fill-In #176

And...here we go!

1. I just had drive along a road I have never been on before.
2. It just is.
3. The third sentence on the 7th page of the book I'm reading: um ... it just has a map.
4. Fabric with a butterfly pattern tickles my fancy.
5. I was walking through a crowd of people - they were all going the opposite direction.
6. My brother makes me laugh!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a quiet night at home, tomorrow my plans include well, as yet that is a mystery and Sunday, I want to enjoy the fellowship at church in the morning, have a successful planning meeting for GNG and go to the leadership training session in the evening!

2010 Reading Challenge - week 18

Only 3 books again for me this week. Those Jack Cavanaugh books from the American Family Portrait series are very long and I haven't had as much reading time this week.

So the ones I finished are:

  • Get Married by Candice Watters (a great book for women who are single)
  • A Very Special Delivery by Linda Goodnight (I actually have an electronic copy of this when they were being given away last year for Harlequin's anniversary or something)
  • The Patriots by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #3)

I'm currently reading:

  • More Precious Than Silver by Joni Eareckson Tada
  • Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? by Carolyn McCulley
  • The Adversaries by Jack Cavanaugh (American Family Portrait series #4)

'The Patriots' by Jack Cavanaugh (An American Family Portrait Series #3)

'Anne's horse raced wildly under a flat gray sky. What had begun as a leisurely spring afternoon in the fields outside Boston had turned into a heart-wrenching battle for her life. She'd lost control of her horse, normally a gentle creature. Not today. Today the mare ran as though possessed, swerving erratically from one side of the road to the other, her eyes rolled back in her hear - red streaked, frightened, furious, horriifyingly fixed on her rider.'

No, it's not a horror story, but you'll just have to read it to find out.
